The video game industry, with 3.32 billion players worldwide, continues to evolve through advancements in graphics, interactivity, augmented and mixed realities, and AI. SIGGRAPH 2024 will showcase these innovations through programs like Talks, Courses, Panels, Appy Hour, the Immersive Pavilion, and the 15th anniversary of Real-Time Live!
This year’s Real-Time Live! invites attendees to experience real-time applications across industries, from gaming to mixed reality (MR). Presentations include AI-driven motion capture technology from MOVIN, generative AI for 3D animation from SayMotion, and real-time volumetric effects for VFX production by Zibra AI.
Emily Hsu, Real-Time Live! Chair, highlighted the event’s unique aspect: live, real-time demonstrations with no slides or pre-recorded videos, showcasing technology from universities, companies, and start-ups alike.
In addition, SIGGRAPH 2024 will focus on immersive storytelling at the Immersive Pavilion, featuring cutting-edge AR, VR, MR, and interactive technologies. Derek Ham, Immersive Pavilion Chair, emphasized the novelty and forward-thinking nature of the exhibits.
Notable installations in the pavilion include:
- MOFA: Multiplayer Onsite Fighting Arena – A mixed-reality game that enhances social interaction using HoloKit X headsets.
- Metapunch X – A haptic feedback esports game integrating XR and multi-display viewing for an immersive spectator experience.
- Reframe: Recording and Editing Character Motion in VR – A live demo from Autodesk Research showing how to create realistic 3D animations in VR.
SIGGRAPH 2024 promises to provide a first-look at the future of gaming and immersive tech, setting the stage for industry trends to come.
